Biofilm and Related Amoebas in an UK Chlorinated Drinking Water System

چکیده
Drinking water distribution systems (DWDS) can host pathogenic amoebae, but the role of biofilms in supporting occurrence these organisms needs to be fully explored UK systems. The presence amoebae and associated bacteria attached inner pipe surfaces was studied an experimental full-scale chlorinated system UK. Quantitative polymerase change reaction (qPCR) used identify quantify whilst bacterial communities were characterised by sequencing 16S rRNA gene. Despite maintenance a chlorine residual network (free ≥ 0.24 mg/L), several species belonging genera Acanthamoeba, Vermamoeba, Naegleria identified 30-day-old biofilm samples; however, no detected samples analysed. dominant present Variovorax, Pseudomonas, Aquabacterium. These results indicate that contained potential bacteria, such as Acanthamoeba respectively, which implies public health risk if are mobilised into bulk water. Several this study able support resistant remain viable within prokaryotic until they reach people’s taps. identification microorganisms with amoeba could improve surveillance DWDS order protect health.

Bacterial community dynamics during the early stages of biofilm formation in a chlorinated experimental drinking water distribution system: implications for drinking water discolouration
AIMS To characterize bacterial communities during the early stages of biofilm formation and their role in water discolouration in a fully representative, chlorinated, experimental drinking water distribution systems (DWDS). METHODS AND RESULTS Biofilm development was monitored in an experimental DWDS over 28 days; subsequently the system was disturbed by raising hydraulic conditions to simula...
متن کاملEpidemiological evidence of carcinogenicity of chlorinated organics in drinking water.
Concern has recently been voiced over possible chronic toxicity associated with chlorination of public drinking water supplies in the United States. This paper reviews the available evidence and the studies underway to further evaluate hypothesized associations between cancer risk and byproducts of chlorination. Preliminary data from measures of halogenated volatiles and personal exposure histo...
متن کاملIngestion Exposure to Nitrosamines in Chlorinated Drinking Water
OBJECTIVES N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) is classified as a probable human carcinogen by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and is formed during the chlorination of municipal drinking water. In this study, selected nitrosamines were measured in chlorinated drinking water collected from Chuncheon, Kangwon-do, Republic of Korea, and a risk assessment for NDMA was conducted...
متن کاملBiological Instability in a Chlorinated Drinking Water Distribution Network
The purpose of a drinking water distribution system is to deliver drinking water to the consumer, preferably with the same quality as when it left the treatment plant. In this context, the maintenance of good microbiological quality is often referred to as biological stability, and the addition of sufficient chlorine residuals is regarded as one way to achieve this. The full-scale drinking wate...
متن کاملMultivariate distributions of disinfection by-products in chlorinated drinking water.
Drinking water disinfection by-product (DBP) occurrence research is important in supporting risk assessment and regulatory performance assessment. Recent DBP occurrence surveys have expanded their scope to include non-regulated priority DBPs as well as regulated DBPs. This study applies a Box-Cox transformed multivariate normal model and data augmentation methods for left-censored and missing o...
